The village table: a weekend of eating in Saugerties

Brunch by the falls, an old ale house with live music, the closest good coffee three minutes from the door, and an ice cream worth planning around. How we work through a weekend.

Saugerties, NY

Walk up from the house and you’ll meet Main Street; take a right, turn on Partition, and it slopes toward the Esopus and the big red bridge. Almost everything below is a short walk from the front door.

Coffee & mornings

The closest good coffee is Olsen & Company — three minutes away, with pastries, sandwiches, and a thoughtful little counter of cheeses, butters, and pantry things if you’re stocking the kitchen. Josie’s Coffee Shop on Partition opens early and does a proper breakfast. For the earliest cup — and whole beans to take back to the house — Bluestone Roasting.

Brunch & dinner

Miss Lucy’s Kitchen is the brunch we’d point you to first: the sausage, egg, and cheese is great, and so is the brunch burger. For dinner with a view, Black Barn at Diamond Mills overlooks the Esopus and the falls of the old mill dam — reservations are wise. And the Dutch Ale House is the lively, low-key, family-friendly one, with live music some nights.

A sweet, on the way home

Five minutes from the house, Alleyway Ice Cream rotates its flavors — if the Thai iced tea or the cookies-and-cream is up while you’re here, don’t miss it. A little further out, Meltaway Bakery is worth the short drive for the cheesecake.

Provisions

Saturday mornings in season (10–2, May through October), the Saugerties Farmers’ Market on Main Street is the easiest way to fill the kitchen — vendors tend to show up even in the rain.

These are our standbys. A small village changes fast, so when you book we’ll send our current favorites — and the one table worth a reservation that weekend.
